Weeks 37+
Positioning & Breath
A 75 minute practice designed to help baby move into a beneficial position for childbirth. A head down, anterior presentation (baby facing your spine) can allow for a less painful & shorter labor, and by practicing how to slowly & methodically breathe while sensing discomfort, we can train our minds & bodies to become acquainted with watching & abiding sensation, use our breath to signal our sympathetic nervous system and help ourselves choose which focal point would best assist us for what’s currently happening (pleasant or not so pleasant, expected or unexpected).
During these last few weeks of your pregnancy, it’s a good idea to spend at least 20 minutes of your day in an all fours/tabletop position. Due to gravity, this quadruped shape allows baby to shift slightly out of the pelvis and find some space to reposition. If you’ve got only 25 minutes, 26:04 to 51:30 is a great little practice utilizing this theory.
Please note that this practice will not help flip a breech baby, nor will it misalign an already well-positioned baby. If your baby is head down, this class is safe & advantageous to practice daily.
You’ll need 2 blocks, 2 blankets, a birthing ball, a bolster & some wall space for this practice.
